You think you have already tried everything Manitoba, and more specifically, Winnipeg, has to offer: water slide parks, laser tag, bowling lanes, mini golf, go karts, batting cages, archery ranges, trampoline parks, corn mazes, arcades, axe throwing…the list goes on of entertainment options. One that might still be waiting to be crossed off on your bucket list, however, is paintball! Millions of people partake in the sport each year, but there are still many who have never tried it. If you are one of these people, we want to help!
Here is our list of the top six reasons to try paintball:
Adrenaline:
Paintball is the ultimate adrenaline rush! Whether you are pinned in a helicopter listening to paintballs ringing out as they slam into the metal walls, or the last person standing trying to win the game for your team, or sneaking up behind someone to try to mercy-eliminate them, you will feel your heart pounding. The feeling of eliminating someone with a perfectly placed shot and seeing the paint splatter on them never gets old.
Level Playing Field:
In paintball anyone can shoot anyone, so this makes it a unique sport. Physical ability and coordination can help, but it is often the strategy and angles chosen that make someone successful. Everyone on the field will be using similar equipment in that it all shoots relatively the same distance and velocity, so paintball allows for a fairly level playing field where a seven year old can easily shoot out an adult if in the right place at the right time.
Teamwork and Friendships:
Paintball breaks down barriers and gives you something to talk about with your group members. We have witnessed plenty of groups where the members did not know each other well at the beginning of the day, but by the end of the experience were talking like old friends. Paintball forces teammates to work together in order to try to eliminate the opponent and provides life-lasting memories of winning games, shooting out adversaries, and perfectly executed strategies.
Exercise and Fresh Air:
Being shot at is a great motivator to run! You will engage all kinds of muscles as you sprint, dive, jump, and roll all over the field. You do not have to have marathon runner endurance or Usain Bolt speed to have fun, however, as we have hosted all kinds of players with a variety of different body types. Games typically last about 10-15 minutes long depending when you are shot out, so there is lots of time for breaks to avoid over-exerting yourself. You will feel it the next day though!
Affordable:
Playing paintball is not as expensive as you might think. Splatters, for example, has rental packages starting out at only $40 per player. This is comparable or more affordable than most other high end adventure activities in Manitoba. If you invest into attending a quality paintball park to play, you will soon agree that the experience is worth every penny.
Safe Fun:
There will never be a dull moment once you get out on the paintball field! Many people, after trying it for the first time, start coming out to play several times per year or even bi-weekly. The paintball community in Manitoba is extremely welcoming and inclusive, so if after your paintball adventure you decide paintball is something you want to do more often, it is very easy to get into as a consistent hobby! As long as safety rules are followed, paintball is also a very safe sport. We see very few injuries at Splatters, and these rare injuries are accidents such as rolling an ankle while running, cuts from sliding hard on the grass etc. – not from the sport itself.
